Terminal Lobby Renovation and International Arrivals Facility (IAF)

COMPLETE

This project will provide travelers an expanded and visually engaging central terminal as well as a state-of-the-art International Arrivals Facility (IAF) that will replace the existing Interim International Arrivals Building (IAB).

  • 440,000-square-foot project, including a terminal lobby expansion and renovation, and the addition of a state-of-the-art International Arrivals Facility (IAF)
  • Addition of sweeping roof canopy and pedestrian bridge
  • Expanded and consolidated security checkpoint with up to 24 screening lanes
  • New central marketplace with dining, retail and service amenities
  • Abundant natural light and compelling views of the airfield
  • The expanded and upgraded IAF will include:
    • 6 international gates to accommodate rising demand for international service, and attract new service to and from Europe, Asia, Latin America and more
    • New Customs and Border Protection (CBP) area

On-Airport, Hilton-Branded Hotel and Terminal Garage

PROJECT COMPLETE

The addition of an on-airport, Hilton-branded hotel will bring a new level of convenience and a host of exceptional amenities for our travelers. The 14-story development will be a public-private partnership consisting of a 10-story hotel and plaza on top of a multi-level Terminal Garage, located directly adjacent to the main terminal. The upscale hotel is designed to meet top emerging global trends for on-airport hotels and growing demand for business and leisure travelers, groups and meetings. Additionally, the new Terminal Garage will expand the airport’s convenient parking offerings.

  • 292-room hotel, including six luxury suites
  • Grand Plaza with open-air dining, a bar, café and compelling landscaping
  • Four-level Terminal Garage with hotel parking, public parking and a variety of customer amenities
  • Hotel amenities will include:
    • A high-design Grand Lobby with inspiring public artwork, Grand Bar and Music Lounge and high-end contemporary restaurant
    • Innovative meeting and event spaces totaling 16,500 square feet, including an 8,000-square-foot Grand Ballroom/Event space
    • A large, state-of-the art fitness center on the 12th floor with dramatic views
    • A prominent Glass SkyBar Lounge and open-air SkyPool on the 14th floor rooftop, providing spectacular views over BNA to Nashville’s dynamic skyline
    • Convenient hotel parking
    • Covered pedestrian bridge connecting the hotel, plaza and garage to the terminal building.

Satellite Concourse

PROJECT COMPLETE

This free-standing satellite concourse near the main terminal will provide more gates to accommodate anticipated growth of air travel demand in Middle Tennessee. In addition to meeting the needs of incremental passenger growth post-pandemic, the availability of the new satellite concourse will enable construction of an expanded Concourse A in the future.

  • To be located adjacent to Concourse C
  • Concourse will feature:
    • 8 domestic aircraft gates
    • A variety of concessions
    • Customer amenities
    • Interior finishes complementing the signature look established by BNA’s new Concourse.
  • Plans include a passenger shuttle system that will circulate between the main terminal and the satellite concourse.

Donelson Pike Relocation and Terminal Access Roadway Improvements

UNDER CONSTRUCTION

With traffic and airport utilization continuing to rise, the Donelson Pike Relocation and Terminal Access Roadway Improvements projects are vital to improving access to and circulation around BNA.

  • Donelson Pike Relocation, a Tennessee Department of Transportation project, will:
    • Straighten Donelson Pike from taxiway bridges to I-40
    • Improve safety
    • Enhance airport access to and from I-40 East and I-40 West
  • Terminal Access Roadway Improvements, a BNA project, will:
    • Adding an expansive new outer loop roadway
    • Realign and widen existing roadways
    • Build greater capacity and improve traffic circulation
    • Expand surface parking lots
    • Design and construction by Superior Construction Company Southeast, LLC

When will it be finished?

TDOT’s Donelson Pike relocation project: Construction began in 2022 and will be complete in 2026.
BNA’s airport roadways project: Construction will begin in  2026 and will be complete in 2028.

Concourse D and Terminal Wings Expansion

PROJECT COMPLETE

BNA® Vision has revived and expanded Nashville International Airport®’s fourth concourse, Concourse D, added new ticketing and baggage space and renovated existing space in the central terminal. This LEED Silver-certified facility has earned industry acclaim with an Award of Merit and a National Award of Excellence from the Design-Build Institute of America.

  • 115,000-square-foot Concourse D
  • 6 domestic aircraft gates to increase capacity to attract new airlines and services
  • Amenities including:
    • Space for future dining, retail and service amenities
    • Electrochromic glass, which darkens to block out excessive sunlight and heat
    • Restrooms
    • Mother’s room
    • Indoor service animal relief area
    • Water bottle filling stations
    • Charging outlets integrated into gate seating
    • Compelling art installations
  • 200,000 square feet of new space will be added to the north and south ends of the terminal
    • New airline ticketing space
    • 4 new Baggage Claim carousels
  • Renovation of 136,000 square feet of existing terminal space

How will travelers be impacted?

All airline ticket counters and security checkpoints are now located at the north and south ends on the the Departures level. The center of the ticketing lobby is closed for construction through 2023.

Baggage service offices may have moved since your last visit. Southwest and American’s baggage offices are located in the South Baggage Claim Expansion (near baggage carousels 1 and 2). Delta, United and Spirit’s baggage offices are located in the North Baggage Claim Expansion (past baggage carousel 10, in the rental car check-in area).

Terminal Garage 1

PROJECT COMPLETE

This project includes a six-level parking garage near the terminal, a new airport administrative building and pedestrian plaza.

  • 2,800-space terminal parking garage directly across from the terminal
  • New Valet center on the ground level
  • Features and amenities including:
    • Park Assist parking space guidance system
    • EV charging stations
    • Tire inflation station
    • Vehicle locator kiosks
    • Pay-on-foot kiosks
    • Flight information displays
    • 50,000-gallon cistern for rain water harvesting and landscape irrigation
    • Sustainability:
  • 64,000-square-foot airport administrative office building, which will replace BNA’s existing office space on the fourth floor of the terminal, and provide space for the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and other airport services
  • Pedestrian plaza on the fifth level with picturesque landscaping, seating, swings, a dog park and children’s play area.

Terminal Garage 2

PROJECT COMPLETE

Terminal Garage 2 is a state-of-the-art parking and ground transportation facility conveniently adjacent to the terminal. This state-of-the-art facility is also a green parking structure that has earned Parksmart’s Bronze certification for sustainable design, construction, and operation and an Excellence in Sustainable Design Award from the International Parking & Mobility Institute.

  • 6 levels
  • 2,200 covered parking spaces
  • Dedicated Ground Transportation Center for commercial vehicles
  • Park Assist parking space guidance system
  • EV charging stations
  • Tire inflation station
  • Vehicle locator kiosks
  • Pay-on-foot kiosks

The Terminal Garage opened in December 2018.

How will travelers be impacted?

Interim International Arrivals Building (IAB)

PROJECT COMPLETE
BNA Vision includes the construction of a state-of-the-art International Arrivals Facility (IAF). To accommodate immediate needs for additional international capacity, the current IAB has been expanded and upgraded to serve as an interim international passenger processing and welcome center while the permanent IAF is being designed and constructed.

  • Increased processing capacity from 200 passengers per hour to 400 passengers per hour
  • Additional passenger boarding bridge to accommodate 2 arriving flights simultaneously.
  • Upgrades to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection processing area including installation of self-check kiosks and screening equipment
  • Connects directly to the Baggage Claim, eliminating the need for arriving passengers to re-check baggage or be re-screened by the Transportation Security Administration, unless transferring to a domestic flight
  • Construction by JE Dunn Construction; Architect: Thomas, Miller & Partners; Mechanical/Electrical/Plumbing (MEP) Design: IC Thomasson; Structural Design: Logan Patri Engineering

When will it be finished?

The Interim IAB expansion became operational in February 2018.

 

Terminal Apron and Taxilane Expansion

PHASE 1 COMPLETE

This project will accommodate construction of the new International Arrivals Facility (opening in 2023) and will include paving to add space for aircraft parking and maneuvering when the IAF is completed.

  • Phase 1 added more than 500,000 square feet (13+ acres) of space
  • Project scope included filling a 50-foot depression with 55,000+ dump truck loads of material and placing concrete
  • Phase 1 design: Garver

When will it be finished?

  • Phase 1 has been completed.
  • Phase 2 will be completed in Fall 2023.
