Nashville International Airport Celebrates Completion of New Terminal Garage

$115 Million Project is Major Component of ‘BNA Vision’ Growth & Expansion Plan

NASHVILLE – Joined by Mayor David Briley, Nashville International Airport (BNA) today hosted a preview and ribbon-cutting event for its new $115 million Terminal Garage. The state-of-the-art facility offers 2,200 parking spaces, a variety of amenities for travelers and a dedicated Ground Transportation Center for commercial vehicles.

Opening to the public on Thursday, Dec. 20, the Terminal Garage will serve as the new location for convenient garage parking and ground transportation. It is a major component of BNA Vision, the airport’s dynamic growth and expansion plan, and was completed $7 million under budget at a final cost of $115 million.

“Our passengers have watched the Terminal Garage take shape over the last two years, and today we celebrate its completion,” said Dr. A. Dexter Samuels, BNA Board of Commissioners chair. “A modern facility with convenient parking and easy access to a variety of ground transportation is critical to our customers and essential as we build a world-class airport. Today’s ribbon-cutting marks a significant moment for BNA’s ongoing expansion, and this Terminal Garage will serve the traveling public well for many years to come.”

The new, six-level garage features a variety of modern conveniences including:

parking space guidance system
electric vehicle charging stations
tire inflation station
vehicle locator kiosks
pay-on-foot kiosks
flight information displays
covered walkway to the terminal
ground-level pick-up by commercial vehicles including WeGo Public Transit buses, hotel shuttles, charter buses, limousines, taxis and ride app vehicles

“As we celebrate the opening of our new Terminal Garage, it’s important to note that we’re also celebrating a major investment in our community,” said Doug Kreulen, BNA president and CEO. “Building this facility featured more than $19 million in contracts for small, minority and woman-owned business enterprises. At BNA, we’ve long had a focused commitment to diversity and inclusion in our community, and this is one more example of how we’re providing opportunities for a diverse array of businesses.”

The Terminal Garage is located next to the existing Short Term Parking Garage, which will soon close for demolition to make way for a larger terminal parking garage as part of BNA Vision.

BNA’s Terminal Garage was designed and built utilizing Parksmart℠, the world’s only rating system designed to advance sustainable mobility through smarter parking structure design and operation. Sustainable components of the Terminal Garage include recycling receptacles, energy efficient lighting programmed to dim when no motion is detected, a 20,000-gallon cistern to collect rainwater for landscape irrigation and an emphasis on regional labor and regionally sourced materials.

Other notable features include custom art installations with BNA Signal Pattern, created by Ivan Toth Depeña (Airboat Inc.), a dynamic light and glass sculpture in the elevator lobby on all six levels of the garage, and On Air, a Nashville-themed mural on the first level, created by Nashville-based artists Jake Elliott (What. Creative Group) and Eric Bass (Mobe).

Other BNA Vision projects currently underway include the terminal apron and taxilane expansion project, which will be completed in two phases with the first finished in summer 2019; Concourse D and terminal wings expansion, set to open in summer 2020; and a new terminal parking garage, airport administrative building and pedestrian plaza, set to open fall 2020.

Launched in July 2016, BNA Vision is the airport’s dynamic growth and expansion plan for Nashville International Airport. Upon its completion in 2023, BNA Vision will include a Parking Terminal Garage, new Concourse D, expanded central terminal, an expanded security checkpoint, a state-of-the-art International Arrivals Facility, an airport administration building, and potential hotel and transit connection.

The Terminal Garage, designed by Atkins North America and built by JE Dunn Construction Company, was 23 months in the making, from the groundbreaking in January 2017 to completion this month. It took more than 534,000 hours of labor to build with a work force of more than 1,200 people.

BNA is currently served by 15 airlines and offers 460 daily flights. Nashville International Airport provides nonstop air service to more than 65 destinations.
